Le plan directeur de développement des infrastructures régionales de la Communauté économique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) est en cours de validation lors d’un atelier qui s’est ouvert à Lomé ce 9 août 2016, au Togo. Cet atelier prendra fin ce 11 août 2016.
La rencontre est organisée par la Commission de la CEDEAO à travers son Unité chargée de la préparation et du développement des projets d’infrastructures régionales d’intégration au sein des Etats membres, de la gestion du Fonds des infrastructures pour la préparation des projets, de la mobilisation des ressources, de l’identification, de la sélection et de la priorisation des projets (PPDU), basée dans la capitale togolaise. Recruitment of a consultancy firm to undertake a study related to the modernization of the Dakar – Bamako railway
- The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has received financing from the Spanish Cooperation for International Development (AECID) towards the cost of the ECOWAS Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU), and intends to apply part of the proceeds for consulting services.
- The consulting services include conducting preliminary design studies towards the modernization of the Dakar –Bamako-Koulikoro Railway Line including transaction advises on institutional arrangements and resource mobilization towards the modernization of this critical regional railway link.
- The Dakar-Bamako railway links the capitals of Senegal and Mali. It contributes to the opening up of Mali via the port of Dakar and facilitates economic exchanges between member countries of the sub regional integration spaces (WAEMU, ECOWAS) and to the opening up of the regions it covers. The railway was built at the beginning of last century and is a 1,286 km long metric gauge railway. This railway line experienced very little rehabilitation or maintenance work. Consequently, it was under exploited and unable to cover the potential freight and passenger traffic. In order to improve the competiveness of the route, concessions arrangement were initiated in April 2001. However, due to various challenges and difficulties, these concession arrangements did not yield the desired result and the insufficiencies on the line still remain.
Review of data collection report on the study for the development of rural electrification and suburban areas in West Africa
From 13 to 14 June 2016, was held at the headquarters of the Preparation and Development Unit Projects (PPDU) in Lome, Togo, a meeting to review the data collection report on the study for the development of rural electrification and suburban areas in West Africa.
This study started in September 2015 aims to increase the access of rural and peri-urban populations to energy services and is part of the strategies chosen by ECOWAS to promote access to energy for all.

Second session of steering committee meeting of the ECOWAS-FODETE study for the Validation of the revised draft final report
A validation workshop on the revised draft final report Interim Report of the pre-feasibility study on the Dakar – Lagos corridor missing links was held on 21st to 22nd January 2015 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
A revised Draft Final Report was submitted by the Consultant in November 2015 and it was deemed necessary to convene a second session of the Steering Committee to undertake a final review of the report and to make recommendations to the Sector Ministers of ECOWAS Member States. READ MORE »
